INFO
Dimitar Gorchakov is a Bulgarian jazz pianist and composer born in Sofia. Shortly after completing his studies, he became actively involved in a wide range of projects spanning improvisation, jazz, and classical music, as well as live accompaniment for silent films, music for theatre productions and exhibitions, and experimental formats that merge sound and photography. With several of these projects, he has performed at festivals across Europe, North and South America, and the Scandinavian countries.
In 2021, he released his debut solo piano album, “Tomorrow’s Past,” weaving together jazz, classical music, and Bulgarian folklore into a personal and distinctive musical language. That same year, he was nominated for the prestigious “Crystal Lyre” award in the Jazz category for a concert presenting the album. Gorchakov has also created the independent photography exhibition and musical performance “Dark Light,” further exploring the dialogue between image and sound. In 2023, he was invited to perform “Piano Sketches,” a collection of pieces for various pianos composed by Georgi Strezov - an invitation that reaffirmed his position as a refined and versatile voice within the contemporary jazz landscape.
